This month, we are diving deep into the concept of mastery. What exactly is mastery? Mastery is not just about being good at something; it’s about total dominance or control. In Genesis 1, God blessed us and created us to dominate. He wants us to have mastery over every aspect of our lives, including our spiritual, emotional, psychological, and physical well-being.
As we set out to develop mastery in all dimensions of our lives, it’s important to understand that mastery is not accidental. It involves gaining great skill or knowledge and consistently demonstrating that skill. Mastery is about going above and beyond the benchmark on a consistent basis.
Phases of Mastery: From Knowing to Doing to Teaching
Mastery is a journey that involves moving from knowing to doing to teaching. It’s about passing the benchmark, gaining complete understanding of the content, and being able to consistently demonstrate the skill. For example, achieving fluency in a language requires more than just knowing the words; it’s about being able to use the language confidently in any situation.
How to Develop Mastery
Developing mastery requires purposeful habits and intentional actions. First, sit down and ask yourself: What areas of my life do I want to develop mastery in? Whether it’s your job, your marriage, or your character, identify those areas and start developing purposeful habits to hone those skills.
The 5 Dimensions of Mastery for a Christian: The 5 Ts
- My Tablet (The Word of God): The foundation of our faith and the source of wisdom and guidance.
- His Temple (My Body): Our bodies are temples of God, and we should treat them with respect and care. This includes how we treat ourselves and others.
- Time (His Gift to Me): Time is a precious gift, and we should use it wisely. Are we using our time to complain or to make a global impact?
- Talents: Are we investing our talents or hiding them? Fear should not hold us back from using our gifts.
- Tithe: Are we good stewards of what we have been given? Being a good steward includes being tithe-oriented and understanding the principle of saving before spending.
Mastery is a journey that requires effort and intentionality. It’s about going from a level of mastery to excellence to expertise. Whatever your vision is, start learning and developing mastery now. Put in the effort and don’t wait to start making an impact. As we develop mastery in all dimensions of our lives, we can step into our full potential and fulfill the purpose that God has for us.
